Let’s face it. There are a lot of companies out there that do background checks. When you’re looking for a student background screening provider, it may seem overwhelming. Some of our earlier blogs have provided helpful advice:

 

  • Look for a company with industry knowledge. If your students are in an allied health program, look for a company that is knowledgeable and proficient with performing student backgrounds, but don’t forget to make sure they are experienced at working with healthcare providers, such as hospitals and clinical sites. It’s important that the company you work with understands industry and partner site requirements in order to ensure your program is in compliance with your clinical contracts.
  • Accreditation. Earlier blogs have covered this in detail. But shouldn’t your school, which undergoes a rigorous accreditation process, work with a background screening organization that also upholds these same types of standards of excellence?
  • Products and services. There are many products and services. One standard package does not meet all needs. And the sheer volume of things to choose from can be overwhelming. Work with a company that takes the time to get to know your needs, helping you select the products and services you need for your particular program.
  • High level of standards in its customer service.  In addition to having representatives who work with you to design a program that suits your needs, how your student background provider responds to your faculty and students’ needs is also a factor to consider. It should be easy to reach a representative to answer questions and provide information or any training you may need.

 

In addition to the above standards, there are other hallmarks of a good company. Honesty, thoroughness and reasonable pricing are very important. In business, honesty and integrity are the gold standard. Ethics should not just be something stated in a corporate mission statement. The company must uphold the principles it espouses.

 

And thoroughness is another gold standard in the screening industry. It’s not enough to just check a database or two and say the background is complete. Information needs to be verified, so that you can be confident that the job was done correctly.

 

And last, but definitely not least, there’s pricing. The cheapest company may not be the best solution if it doesn’t meet your student background screening needs. Take into consideration what your students are getting for their money. And what happens if you need to add a new product or service – do you worry that your prices will skyrocket?
